The public is invited to celebrate the 205th anniversary of the Thomas Sappington House. The house, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, will hold an open house on Sunday, Oct. 13, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The house is located at 1015 S. Sappington Road in Crestwood.

During the open house around the grounds of the home will be demonstrations of 19th century everyday crafts such as rope makers, basket weavers, quilters, candle makers, cornhusk doll makers and others. A storyteller will tell stories by the pond. The party will also include free tours of the Sappington House and Library of Americana, plus cake and prizes. In conjunction with the Sappington House Anniversary Celebration, free tours of the Father Dickson Historic Black Cemetery will be held on Sunday, Oct. 13, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. A newly developed walking tour with short biographies of many of the notable gravesites will highlight African-American history, spanning a history of 167 years from slavery until the 1960s Civil Right Movement.
